About Eid al Fitr
The Ramadan, Islam’s month of fasting, is marked by a celebration when it ends. This is the Festival of Breaking of the Fast, or popularly called the Eid al-Fitr. It is one of the important Muslim religious holidays celebrated world wide. It is also the First Eid of the year. The Second Eid is the Eid al-Adha.
History of Eid al Fitr
According to Islam, the Prophet Mohammed received the divine knowledge from the Angel Gabriel during the month of Ramadan. To show gratitude to the blessing Allah gave him, Mohammed passed on the observance of Ramadan to his children and followers and end the month of fasting with celebration accompanied with eating and drinking. It is considered a reward to oneself after a whole month of worship and spiritual devotion to Allah through self-denial.
It also has a practical concept with the faithful. A month of fasting will leave the body weak and hungry. To help the body regain its strength and make the person return to his normal way of life the fasting must be ended with eating. A festival is a great way for people to eat a good amount of food and enjoy them with their brothers and sisters in faith.
